Merry Christmas, Afghanistan!

So…you’d think with the free time I have around the holidays I’d find some time to post? Been busy ’round here - we just got a foot of snow last night, so I was digging us out today. (My sweet snowblower, you shall be SAVED!) The cape got 20 INCHES! For those of you who have never tried to move 2 feet of snow around with a shovel, count your blessings ;-)

What am I complaining about? At least we didn’t have a huge tsunami. Pray for those people, please.

KenAnyway, I try not to write unless I have something interesting to post. Over Christmas I was thinking about our cousin Ken and his family. I saw Ken this fall in Germany before he deployed. He’s now in Afghanistan, recently helping hold the elections and inauguration, and just sent us some pictures. I love the ‘Welcome to Kabul’ sign right behind him!

We all owe Ken and all the others like him a big debt of gratitude! Thanks Ken and I hope we can all get together again soon.

iRobot - is it closer than you think?

AsimoI found a link to a video of Honda’s experimental robot, Asimo. The Japanese are really into this robotics stuff. Check this out! Watch him run.

While I’m on the robot topic, one thing that came out at AU (if, like me, you aren’t glued to the AUGI Revit forums every day) is that the sets for iRobot (the movie) were designed using Revit. I haven’t seen the movie, but I’ve heard it’s not so great - but the sets are COOL. I’m going to have to buy the DVD just for the sets.

iRobotWhat’s cooler is they used Revit models for the CDs and then did the construction docs in Revit to build the physical sets 2-3 stories tall. The images show a bunch of excellent work posted to AUGI by Bryan Sutton.

iBod, iRobot - didn’t we do this ‘i-prefix’ thing in 1999? ;-)

This Christmas, everybody wants an iPod

…including me.

iBod (I couldn’t help posting this one.) My friends in SF used to say ‘the porn industry always uses every new technology first, before it goes mainstream.’ Thus the examples of websites, streaming video and online payment processing.

So, is it mainstream yet, or not?

In a telling sign of adoption, Playboy.com today apparently launched iBod. Subscribers can get, ehem, pictures delivered to them that will display on their iPod. (Remember, I wanted one before I found out about this.) ;-)

Anyway, so I went to look at the article, and found Guy 101. What is it? It is a list of articles that teaches you everything you ever wanted to know about being a better guy!

How to Catch a Bass

For example, the one about what you really have to do to catch a bass. We lived in New Hampshire for over 2 years, and I could never wheedle this info out of anybody!

There’s also another section called ‘Blueprints’ that give diagrams for these types of things too; Here’s How to shave with a straight razor razor for all you real men that need to know.

Just for completeness; here’s how to start a record label by the guy who started Sub Pop, Nirvana’s label. A real guy band, too.

Fixed!

Podz to the rescue on the WP support forums! Many thanks!

AU is history…

Revit had a great Autodesk University this year - many landmarks and milestones. It was a record year for attendance, close to 4500 people. I’m editing some video of it to play for the Waltham staff at a pizza lunch this week. You can see the video here. No - I’m not in it, but you can see our VPs and marketing folks ;-)

All the Revit classes were packed. Each of the 2 classes I taught had 200 signed up, and over 300 showed up for each one!

We unveiled Revit Structure which will ship next year. The video has a pretty extensive demo. It was really a lot of work but worth every second! Congrats everybody!
